about
Rogue Agent, Too is a futuristic rock ballad inspired by the movie Blade Runner,
with a simple twist.
I am the one being hunted by a female blade runner,
believing all the while that I'm also an undercover rogue agent,
and desperately trying to tell her this,
before she kills me.
Simultaneously, I'm trying to hide the fact
that I'm convinced that it's ME who is actually the real human being,
and that SHE is the android.
Blade Runner's original author, Philip K. Dick has written some of my favorite sci-fi stories of all time,
so I wanted to leave some easter eggs of his ideas peppered throughout the song.
PKD wrote over 50 years ago and directly inspired everything from the Matrix to Total Recall to Westworld.
His work deals with artificial intelligence, thought control, drugs, government surveillance,
and the ever-shifting nature of what we call "reality".
His ideas are more relevant than ever in 2021.
Interspersed in the lyrics are actual quotes from his work.
See if you can recognize any of them!
Also, the moog and synthesizer sounds are a little homage to the masterful composer Vangelis,
from the soundtrack of the original film.
Ultimately, it's an ultra-modern love song that asks the question,
"If love isn't real, then what is?"
lyrics
Rogue Agent, Too
She's the bounty hunter who's hot on my trail
The rogue agent that's been sent to seduce me
She's the one who really knows how it feels
Somehow I've convinced myself to let her use me
She said,
"We're gonna wanna trust one another, no matter what,
Because there ain't no going back, once the trap snaps shut"
She's a rogue agent
Been trying to divine,
What's her angle?
I'm dying to tell her
I'm a rogue agent, too
Is my smartphone trying to spy on me?
Is there really no way to get out of this maze?
I stopped believing in reality,
but it just won't seem to go away
She said "We better stick together from here on in"
Could she be so empathetic?
Or have I just met a replicant?
Rogue agent
Been trying to divine,
What's her angle?
I'm dying to tell her
I'm a rogue agent, too
Rogue agent
Now I finally know,
What's your angle
I'm ready to show you I'm a rogue agent, too
